The new trailer for Late Night With the Devil takes audiences back to Halloween night, 1977. The movie, written and directed by Colin Cairnes and Cameron Cairnes, stars David Dastmalchian (The Suicide Squad, The Boogeyman) as Johnny Carson’s late-night adversary, Jack Delroy.
Set on October 31, 1977, Jack Delroy hosts a syndicated late-night talk show, Night Owls, which has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. A year after the tragic death of Jack’s wife, his ratings have plummeted. Desperate to turn his fortunes around, Jack plans a Halloween special like no other, unaware that he is about to unleash evil into the living rooms of America.
The trailer’s voiceover is evocative of John Larroquette’s in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). The opening scene zooms on a television set in front of orange, red, and yellow 1970s draperies. The narrator tells us that what we are going to see is a genuine, recently found tape from Night Owls’ infamous Halloween night recording, an event that “shocked the nation.”
What follows are terrifying scenes of demonic possession and a man’s descent into madness. The entire night takes place in front of a live studio audience. But are the depictions of demons and monsters real? Or do they exist only in the mind of our host, Jack Delroy? We can’t wait to find out.
