Mark Duplass in Creep 2 on Netflix - The Creep Tapes

Peachfuzz fans, rejoice! More Creep is in the works. While we have eagerly awaited the announcement for Creep 3 since the release of Creep 2 in 2017, it appears that the next installment will be a made-for-TV production called The Creep Tapes.

While speaking with IndieWire in 2020, co-writer and star Mark Duplass was asked about a sequel. He explained, “We’ve written it twice, and neither of those stories are good enough, and the reason is we almost didn’t make a Creep 2.” He continued, “We got lucky making Creep, as cogent as it is considering how we made it, and I didn’t want to disappoint people, and I didn’t want to put out a stupid sequel.”

In order to make Creep 3, Duplass said, “…it’d better be super inspired. We are trying, and we are putting effort into it, but we are not good enough yet to make it worthwhile, so we are struggling.”

Thankfully, it seems the team at Duplass Brothers Productions has found their inspiration. Per Variety, “the series is based on a collection of video tapes in the secret vault of the world’s deadliest and most socially uncomfortable serial killer, who hires his victims to film him for the day under false pretenses. Each episode exposes a new victim from one of the fabled ‘Creep Tapes.'”

Variety adds that while Netflix released Creep and Creep 2, The Creep Tapes is an independent production, with CAA managing global sales.

Patrick Brice directed and co-wrote 2014’s Creep and 2017’s Creep 2. Brice and Duplass starred in the first found-footage film, which follows the increasingly strange and frightening encounters of a videographer (Brice) and his subject (Duplass), Josef, who claims to be dying.

Brice and Duplass collaborated again to write Creep 2, which Brice directed and Duplass starred in.
