Writer-director Wes Craven’s 1984 slasher classic A Nightmare on Elm Street is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Distributed by New Line Cinema, the film will be available for purchase Digitally in 4K Ultra HD on October 1st and 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc on October 15th. The 4K UHD remaster includes both the 1984 theatrical version and an uncut version with eight seconds of additional unrated footage.
Horror legend Robert Englund portrays Freddy Krueger, a murderer who was killed by a group of parents defending their kids. Now he’s back on Elm Street, seeking revenge by haunting their kids’ nightmares. The cast includes Heather Langenkamp as Nancy Thompson, John Saxon as Lt. Don Thompson, Ronee Blakely as Marge Thompson, Amanda Wyss as Tina Gray, Johnny Depp as Glen Lantz, and Nick Corri as Rod Lane. Robert Shaye (founder of New Line Cinema) produced the film.

Following the film’s theatrical success, it spawned five direct sequels: A NOES 2: Freddy’s Revenge, A NOES 3: Dream Warriors, A NOES 4: The Dream Master, A NOES 5: The Dream Child, and Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare. There is also a standalone film, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, a crossover with Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees, Freddy vs. Jason, and a remake sharing the same title as the original, in addition to a TV series, comics, video games, and other merchandise.
