Smile 2, written and directed by Parker Finn, debuted on October 18, 2024, as a box office success. It is a sequel to Finn’s previous film, Smile (2022), which starred Sosie Bacon, Kyle Gallner, and Jessie T. Usher. The story we saw unfold in the first film continues, but the mysterious force has a new target.
Skye Riley, played by Naomi Scott, is a famous pop star returning to tour after dealing with addiction and a tragic car accident. Her mother, Elizabeth (Rosemarie DeWitt), manages her career and is committed to seeing her daughter return to the public eye. However, Skye sees terrifying smiles everywhere following a bizarre and fatal encounter with a drug dealer (Lukas Gage). Something is following her, endangering her tour, sanity, and life.
It also stars Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Ray Nicholson, Dylan Gelula, Raúl Castillo, and Kyle Gallner.
Smile 2 followed the year’s trend of successful horror films. It has received positive Rotten Tomatoes reviews from critics and audiences, with many thinking it was scarier than the first film. The finale leaves the door open for another sequel, which we wouldn’t be surprised to see given the box-office success of the first two films.
