Static Tape Video in MI

Muskegon, Michigan, is best known as a vacation spot on Lake Michigan, with plenty of beaches, state parks, and even an amusement park to keep everyone busy. Deep inside The Lakes Mall (located at 5600 Harvey St, Muskegon, MI 49444) lies what can only be described as a geek haven. First, it houses Lange’s Comics and Collectibles, now the largest comic book store in the state after just having relocated to a new 27,000 square ft. space within the mall. Static Tape Video and Spin City have also moved to a larger space with the upgrade.

Record stores are relatively common these days, but did you notice I said VIDEO? Static Tape Video is quickly becoming a destination for film fans and collectors. They have everything from the latest boutique label 4K releases to rare VHS. There’s nothing else like it in the state. To celebrate their expansion, two upcoming special events are bound to bring in people from all over.

The first event is on Saturday, April 12, Record Store Day. The annual celebration offers fantastic sales, and the store had one of the biggest orders of RSD releases in the country delivered last week, ready to be scooped up by rabid shoppers. The store will open at 8 a.m. EST to accommodate everyone. It’s bound to be a crazy day. If music is your thing, I highly suggest you get there early before the special Record Store Day releases are gone.

Then, on Saturday, April 19, Static Tape Video is doing its annual Tape Swap, featuring a ton of vendors selling tapes, DVDs, Blu-rays, posters, collectibles, and so much more. There will also be special in-store sales you won’t want to miss. If that wasn’t enough, there will be live music and special guests like the legendary scream queen Linnea Quigley (Return of the Living Dead) and Marc Price (Trick or Treat). The Tape Swap will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a special screening of the 1986 horror classic Trick or Treat inside the mall.

Static Tape/Spin City has to be seen to be believed. The Lakes Mall has plenty to offer shoppers looking to do more traditional shopping, but it has turned into a must-visit destination for film, music, and geek culture aficionados. These two weekends offer the perfect opportunity to do so. It’s definitely worth taking a trip. There is plenty to keep you occupied, whether for an afternoon, day, or week.
