Mario Bava is credited by some as possibly the greatest Italian horror movie filmmaker ever, and the director of one of the first slasher movies as they’re known today, with A Bay of Blood. Bava is still a bit unknown and underrated compared to his more popular Italian horror colleagues, like Dario Argento (Suspiria) and Lucio Fulci (Zombi), but he was responsible for some incredible and inspirational horror films throughout the 1960s and ‘70s.
Shout! Factory, one of the few remaining great retailers for special editions and exclusive physical media, is releasing a massive 12-disc, 13-film collection of Mario Bava’s best films, which are comprised of comedies, Westerns, and horror movies. The collection includes a plethora of extra features, like commentaries, still photo galleries, and classic TV spots.
