Ghostbusters franchise star Annie Potts closed out last year with a return to a very familiar location. For fans around the world, Potts is known for playing the role of Janine Melnitz in the Ghostbusters movies. On Dec. 31, she returned to the firehouse that served as the team’s HQ in the original Ghostbusters film, as seen in an image the 73-year-old posted on Instagram. The post has since gone viral with over 100K likes.
Potts stated in the caption of the post, “What’s better than turning a corner in Manhattan and running into a familiar face? Wishing everyone a Happy, Healthy New Year!”

After debuting as Janine in the original film released in 1984, Potts reprised the role in the 1989 follow-up, Ghostbusters II. Though she also showed up in the 2016 reboot, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, Potts played a different character, briefly appearing as a hotel clerk. However, she returned to her original role by coming back as Janine in 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife. She played the part once again with another return in the 2024 sequel, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

Potts is also well known for playing Meemaw in the hit sitcom Young Sheldon, a fan-favorite role she reprised for the show’s spinoff series, Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage. Another one of her most popular roles is as the voice of Bo Peep in the Toy Story franchise, which she will play once again for the upcoming Toy Story 5. Meanwhile, Potts can also be seen in the new series Best Medicine, which premiered on Fox on Jan. 4.
As for Ghostbusters, the future of the movie series isn’t entirely clear, though there are reportedly plans to make another sequel set after the events of Frozen Empire. Not much is known about the project and it remains unclear if Potts will return as Janine in the next film. An animated Ghostbusters series is also in the works at Netflix, but no details have yet been divulged about which characters would be featured or when it is likely to be released.
