Exciting things are happening for fans of the Tomb Raider franchise. Currently, an all-new TV series is in the works at Amazon MGM Studios featuring Sophie Turner as the next live-action Lara Croft. Nobody is forgetting the character’s roots; however, new merch unveiled pays homage to when Lara was first introduced to gamers three decades ago.
Funko has announced some new Pops for Lara Croft on the company’s official X account. Among them is a new Pop of Lara that channels the classic PS1 graphics of the original Tomb Raider game released in 1996. Blocky with sharp edges, the unique look conjures up some nostalgic feelings for anyone who played the franchise-spawning game back in the day. Two more modern versions of Lara were also unveiled.

The OG video game was such a hit that it spawned a franchise that remains ongoing to this day, having spread throughout different mediums. A variety of sequels would be released in subsequent years, and though the series was rebooted in 2013, the original game had a remastered release in 2024. The next installment of the video game series, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, is expected to be released this year, with a follow-up title, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, following in 2027.

Also in the works is the franchise’s first live-action TV series. Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner is set to play Lara Croft following previous live-action performances on the big screen by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is developing the series for Amazon MGM Studios, and Turner just recently unveiled a first official look at how she will appear as Lara in the show.
A release date hasn’t yet been set for the new Tomb Raider series.
