There’s a new Jessica Fletcher in town. Previously, it was announced that Halloween icon Jamie Lee Curtis was set to star in a new feature film based on the hit TV series Murder, She Wrote. The project has taken a big step forward with a director now reportedly attached to helm the project.

Per Deadline, Universal has tapped Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect, Sisters) to direct the Murder, She Wrote movie. Written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (Dumb Money), the film will feature Curtis as Jessica Fletcher, the role played by Angela Lansbury in the original TV show. Producers include Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood.

The classic Murder, She Wrote series was created by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson, and William Link. Running for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, it followed Jessica Fletcher, a mystery writer who investigates unsolved murders in the town of Cabot Cove. The show was a major hit with high ratings and major award wins, including an Emmy and multiple Golden Globes.

Taking over the lead role from Lansbury will mark the latest big part for Curtis, who rose to fame by playing Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s Halloween. Curtis has since won an Oscar for her role in 2022’s Everything Everywhere All at Once and seemingly concluded her run playing Laurie in Halloween Ends. She more recently appeared in last year’s Disney sequel Freakier Friday alongside Lindsay Lohan.

A release date has not yet been set for the Murder, She Wrote movie.
