MGM+’s FROM has established itself as more than just your average TV show over its first three seasons. With key creatives from the hit series LOST, the show has built a lore that feels familiar. However, FROM has carved out its own path, diving deep into the human condition and examining our humanity while growing darker and more horrifying with each passing season.

Season 4 has premiered, and the fifth and final season is now confirmed. It’s safe to say the creatives behind the scenes will now have a chance to finish the show the way they want to.

The show now has well-established characters, and the actors who play them have built personal relationships with one another along the way. Into this now well-oiled machine steps actor Julia Doyle, who plays Sophia. The new character makes a memorable entrance in Episode 1, leaving us with much to ponder in a chilling final scene. It was quite an entrance for the newest member of the show, and she definitely made an impact.

In anticipation of the new season, we spoke with Julia Doyle about joining the cast for the fourth season. She told us, “I was definitely a little bit nervous, just in general, joining season four of a show where everyone is very close with each other. However, I felt immediately welcome; everyone was so nice, and they were so excited for me too. That made me even more excited. Obviously, I was really happy about it, but it was a really nice, warm, and comfortable environment to walk into.”

When discussing how she prepared for the role, Doyle shared some interesting things she used. “I did go and watch Episode 10 of Season 3.  I also always like to make a playlist of music to kind of get in the zone, so whenever I’m feeling I’m not in the zone, I can reconnect.”

She continued, “I also had two different perfumes, one that’s more of a sweet, innocent scent and one that’s more of pine, masculine, forest-like scent.  I could also (holds up her arms, smelling each one), depending on which character I’m doing. That was a little acting hack that I learned from my coach, Bruce.”

As Sophia, Julia Doyle gets to move back and forth from innocence to evil. When asked whether this was difficult, she explained, “I really enjoyed it, I genuinely had so much fun doing it. I’m the kind of person that, in real life, I’m such a bad liar. I’ve worked regular jobs, worked at a burger place, a doggy daycare, and I have no poker face.”

Continuing, she said, “It’s really fucking bad sometimes but at the same time with acting, it’s really good because I don’t have to think about ‘now, be bad, now be mischievous,’ I just have those thoughts naturally so they occur in my face, so it’s really nice that I’m able to just have the freedom. It’s also really nice that my character got revealed in the first episode, the end of Episode 1, so I knew I had that freedom. Obviously, if I don’t have a character looking at me, I can have more space to play.”

We asked Doyle what her favorite moment or scene was, and as horror fans, we couldn’t help but smile at her answer. “I will say the first episode, the first scene, the car crash, I really enjoyed doing that one. That was the first time I’d done an intense scene like that, where there were stunts; there were no actual stunts in that scene. But it was nice to be in that kind of environment, with the fake blood and all of that. I think I’ll keep it at that (laughs)”.
