The release date for the highly anticipated Friday the 13th: The Game has been pushed out until 2017.

Finding out about a game delay is never fun, especially for excited fans. So far, 2016 has seen several gaming setbacks, including Outlast 2, Gran Turismo Sport, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and Crackdown 3, just to name a few. Joining that list is one of the most anticipated games of the year- Friday the 13th: The Game. Grumble as you may, the news isn’t all bad. The good folks at publishing company Gun Media and developer IllFonic listened to the feedback of their many backers and fans and are announcing a single player mode!

In addition to this, the iconic character of Tommy Jarvis will be available as a playable character. This has been asked for many times by diehard franchise fans, like myself. The game companies will also work on the AI bots and add a third map, Packanack Lodge. This will sound familiar to fans of Friday the 13th Part 2, as it was featured in the film. Anyone who has pre-ordered the game will receive single player free upon release. The price for anyone who did not pre-order will be changing from $30 for a digital copy to $40 for digital. Physical copies will be $60.

Horror fans have long awaited a solid licensed game from some of the major franchises, so there is a lot of pressure to get this right. A well-polished game with more maps, characters and (again) a SINGLE PLAYER MODE is well worth waiting for. In the meantime, if you need a dose of Friday the 13th: The Game, check out their Virtual Cabin on Steam. It gives us a taste of what’s to come! A walkthrough of part of the cabin can be seen here.
