Kevin Smith has been in the news a lot recently, and although his involvement with the new Batman movie couldn’t be any less confirmed if it tried, there is reason to be excited if you’re a fan of his extended Viewaskewniverse.
Smith announced via his Instagram that an all new movie involving his iconic characters Jay and Silent Bob is in the works and should begin filming this summer. The premise of the new movie, which is currently going under the working title of Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, centers on the Jersey slackers returning to Hollywood to prevent a large scale, studio reboot of the Bluntman & Chronic series they fought so hard to shitcan way back in 2001’s Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
Smith describes the script as a: “Tongue in cheek, silly ass satire that pokes fun at the movie business’s (sic) recent redo obsession”, and will feature all-star cameos and returning characters. Here’s hoping for Jason Lee to return as foul mouthed “tracer” Banky Edwards!
This news does come off the back of another Kevin Smith announcement, that of the cancellation of Clerks 3 and the failure of the Mallrats TV show to find a home. According to big Kev, a key cast member has refused to return for the 3rd Clerks installment, rendering it a no go, while his attempts to see the Mallrats concept to a TV Network have thus far proved surprisingly futile.
We’ll keep you updated on the film’s progress, and bring you any new Jay and Silent Bob Reboot news as more information becomes available.
