SXSW 2017: ‘Hi Stranger’ is the Bizarre Short Film the Worlds Needs

Hi Stranger is a short film that had its world premiere at SXSW Conferences and Festivals on March 10, 2017. The film was directed by Kirsten Lepore, who is also an animator. Last year, her stop-motion episode of Adventure Time, “Bad Jubies,” won an Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation.

Now, with Hi Stranger, Lepore introduces us to a creepy little naked guy (voiced by Garrett Davis) who reminds us that we’re worthy of love and taking a moment for ourselves. He also reminds us that it’s okay to look at his butt. No really, it’s okay. His soothing voice and relaxing movements work to wash away the negative in your mind and replace it with self-affirmation.

While it sounds completely insane, I dare anyone to watch the Hi Stranger and not smile. I believe it may be impossible. The animation is quirky, yet beautiful, and the music is simple to keep you relaxed. The film has already gone viral, hitting meme territory and even has a few live-action remakes on YouTube (watch at your own discretion). With a run time of less than three minutes, take a few moments out of your day and give it a watch. Because you’re wonderful.
