INJUSTICE FOR ALL - A Joker Origin Story - Joker and Harley Quinn fan film
White Hand Films

Committed is a short fan film featuring one of comics’ most notorious couples- the Joker and Harley Quinn. The film was written and directed by Terry Ziegelman and co-written by Colin Costello and Brandi Price. Committed stars Aaron Gaffey, Brandi Price, and Matt Stevens. The film was recently screened at Comicpalooza 2017.

The film is essentially the couple sitting on a psychiatrist’s couch exploring their relationship. Things like Harley (Price) feeling that Joker (Gaffey) has an unhealthy obsession with Batman and not focusing enough on her. The psychological view of the Joker and Batman’s relationship was brilliant. It dives into the bromance behind the enemies and why one can’t really kill the other.

It goes into the crazy that is Harley Quinn as well, and the insane things that happen within their relationship that the couple, well, think is normal. Including the abusive nature behind it. Towards the end, we realize that the good doctor isn’t there willingly, and things may not end so well for him.

I have to admit that I’m not the biggest fan of Joker and Harley Quinn as a couple. I love the characters separately, but the over-romanticized, abusive relationship is a bit worn out by now. That’s why I was pleasantly surprised that Committed felt so fresh and was entertaining from beginning to end.

The acting from both Aaron Gaffey and Brandi Price was top-notch, with Price portraying one of my favorite versions of Harley Quinn yet. While there isn’t much action throughout the film, it isn’t missed due to the strong storytelling and amusing in-depth look at the characters and Batman. However, if action is something that you just need, it does come eventually.

If you’re a fan of the Batman universe (and, really, who isn’t?), I can’t recommend checking out the film enough. If you’d like to check out a teaser for the film and get updates on when you can catch a screening, follow along on their Facebook page.
