If you miss hearing Hank Hill hocking propane and propane accessories on Fox’s King of the Hill, you may be in luck. Last fall, we reported that Fox was interested in rebooting the series, and now, creator Mike Judge has an update on its progress. On the red carpet for PaleyFest, Judge confirmed to Rotten Tomatoes he’s interested in bringing the series back.
It’s a move that makes a lot of sense, given the successful revivals of other TV shows from the same era like Full House and The X-Files. However, Judge says that major changes to the show would have to be made, and that if it comes back, a time jump will be used.” People have grown up. I think The Simpsons are so iconic just the way they’re drawn, you can keep Bart that same age for 60 years,” Judge explains. “Our characters, it was starting to strain a little bit to have Bobby still be that age for that long.”
In other potentially good news, Judge is also keen on resurrecting his other animated series Beavis and Butt-head. Though the show came back as a TV series on MTV in 2011, the reboot only lasted for one season. Though Judge says talks have begun to bring back the iconic duo once again, it may be in the form of another feature film. “It’s just a matter of coming up with an idea that feels like it’s worth doing. They’ve talked about a movie possibly,” he says.
As a fan of both shows, I’d be psyched to see both of them return. But as Beavis and Butt-head had their chance a few years ago, I’m just a tad more excited for more King of the Hill. Hopefully the proper deals can be made so we can see that boy who ain’t right back on television at least one more time.
