The WolfCop franchise can almost be described as our modern-day version of The Toxic Avenger. Written and directed by Lowell Dean and released in 2014, the original film stars Leo Fafard as an alcoholic policeman who’s transformed into a werewolf after being cursed. Now known as the “WolfCop,” the violent vigilante now brutally murders any criminal unlucky enough for him to get his paws on. All in the name of the “law,” of course.
Now, Dean is back at it again with the official sequel, Another WolfCop. Fafard is one of many stars of the original reprising their roles for this movie, which picks up where the first one left off. Fafard’s WolfCop still remains confined at night to keep his animalistic behavior at bay, but I don’t need to tell you that the beast in uniform never stays pent up for long.
A new primary villain is introduced in this sequel in the form of a man known as Swallows, expertly played by Yannick Bisson of The Murdoch Mysteries. Presenting himself as the town’s savior, Swallows introduces a new beer branded as “Chicken Milk” to the residents, but it’s clear he has a secret agenda with sinister intentions. A far cry from his role as Detective Murdoch, Bisson really shines as a smarmy villain here, and nearly steals the show in his limited screen time. A character you love to hate, he makes a fantastic foe for the titular WolfCop.
If you thought the first movie was over-the-top, the sequel is even more so. It’s better to know that going in, because anyone expecting a “normal” horror movie here will be in for a big surprise. Although there are plenty of severed limbs to go around, the dark humor is the main focus of Another WolfCop. The kills are done in comical ways, the dialogue is hilarious and quotable, and without getting into it here, the film features perhaps the strangest sex scene I’ve ever witnessed. This kind of movie certainly isn’t for everyone, but if these things sound funny to you, you’ll definitely have a great time watching it.
I would say my biggest qualm with this film is that the ending just isn’t very satisfying. Although the movie is tons of fun, it does seem to lose its way halfway through the third act before things come to an anti-climactic conclusion. It just felt like it was missing a proper ending. Another sequel is teased in the closing credits, however, which means this story isn’t quite over yet. There’s certainly more room in this world for another WolfCop, and after viewing the first two movies, I’m definitely ready for a third.
Another WolfCop is now available on home video, via Blu-ray and DVD. The film can also be purchased on Digital HD, iTunes, and Amazon Video. Find out more info about the film at the official website. Watch the official trailer below!
