dying light 2 first look

The 2015 horror game Dying Light is an awesome title that didn’t seem to get the full appreciation it deserves. Its single player campaign is addictive and fun, and the multiplayer mode is even more so. But one peek at the first look footage for Dying Light 2 already has me dying to jump straight into the sequel.

There will be many differences between Dying Light 2 and its predecessor. For one, Techland has nixed the Chrome engine used for the original in favor of their new C Engine, which was designed specifically for first-person, open world games. In addition to performance and animation, the AI of the non-playable characters has been tweaked as well.

Dying Light 2 will also see a heavier focus on its narrative. Offering a fully interactive story, the choices you make matter and will affect gameplay. This means everyone playing will have a fully unique experience, and add to the replay value overall. Various talented writers were brought in to work on the story, including designer Chris Avellone (Fallout: New VegasKnights of the Old Republic 2).

From the interview:

“[Avellone] was with us from the start. He helped us to define the idea for modern dark ages, a unique setting that we have in the game. It’s a setting that explains [and] presents a world where the civilization has gone back to [the] dark ages, but everything that you see around [you] is quite modern.”

In a video uploaded to YouTube, lead designer Tymon Smektała sheds a lot of light on the Dying Light sequel. Not only do we get tons of juicy details, we get our first look at the beautiful footage as well. Even for those who missed out on the first game, this sneak peek alone should be enough to make you excited for the game!

Currently, there’s no release date attached to Dying Light 2, though it’s expected to come out sometime next year. You can watch the first look footage with the Smektala interview in the video below!
