Ever since Glenn’s demise on AMC’s flagship series The Walking Dead, viewers have been throwing in the towel by the millions. Shocking moments like Carl’s death and Rick’s exit have not done the series any favors either, contributing to even more heavy losses for live viewership. Halfway through Season 9, the show is pulling in numbers comparable to its very first season, which is a far cry from where The Walking Dead was at its peak. Still, pirates seem to be loving the series, as it is apparently the most-downloaded show of 2018.
As revealed in a list released online by the file sharing site Torrent Freak, Game of Thrones was finally dethroned by The Walking Dead after six consecutive years. Of course, this is mostly due to Thrones not airing any new episodes this year, with its final season set to arrive in April. This cleared the path for The Walking Dead to take the top spot, beating out other popular shows like The Big Bang Theory and Titans.
You can take a look at the top ten most-downloaded shows below.
- The Walking Dead
- The Flash
- The Big Bang Theory
- Vikings
- Titans
- Arrow
- Supernatural
- Westworld
- DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
- Suits
Despite falling ratings, The Walking Dead is at least faring well critically under the direction of new showrunner Angela Kang. Some fans are saying the series is more interesting than it has been in a longtime, which is exceptional considering the heavy losses suffered by the departures of Rick, Carl, and Maggie. Getting so many fans to come back after throwing in the towel is certainly an uphill battle and seems unlikely to happen, but as the list above shows, there are still a lot of people interest in watching. For AMC’s sake, hopefully more of them will do so legally once new episodes resume on Feb. 10.
