cobra kai (1)

Cobra Kai has officially been renewed by YouTube for Season 3, meaning the quarrel between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence will continue. Season 2 was just released on YouTube Premium on April 24th, with the first free to watch episode already pulling in over 23 million views. It’s not exactly a surprise to see YouTube choosing to renew the show, given the heavy interest from fans, but it’s certainly fantastic news nonetheless.

Premiering last year on YouTube, Cobra Kai picks up three decades after the last time we saw Ralph Macchio as Daniel. The hit series adds a twist to the familiar story we know from the original trilogy, by making Daniel’s nemesis Johnny Lawrence a protagonist. Seeing things from Johnny’s point of view as he reopens the infamous Cobra Kai karate dojo makes the character much more sympathetic than viewers ever saw him before, essentially making it difficult to know who to root for in the decades long feud.

The first Karate Kid movie was released in 1984. Starring Macchio alongside Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi, the movie was a hit, bringing back the pair for two more movies. Although two more Karate Kid films were made in the form of an original sequel and a remake, Cobra Kai was the first time Macchio has played Daniel since The Karate Kid Part III in 1989.

The second episode of Season 2 of Cobra Kai is free to watch on YouTube. Feel free to check it out below before you decide to subscribe to Premium to see the rest of the season. Trust us though when we say it’s worth it to binge both seasons if you’re late to the party and haven’t seen anything from the show at all.

Synopsis: In the aftermath of Cobra Kai’s win at the Under 18 All Valley Karate Championships, Johnny questions his dojo’s philosophy and deals with a figure from his past. Daniel searches for the right way to respond to Cobra Kai’s dominance.
