Reverse Horror Game ‘Carrion’ Makes You the Monster

Horror fans, prepare yourself to be a monster! Devolver Digital and Phobia Game Studio will soon unleash Carrion to devour the masses. With elements of puzzle and straight-up slaughter, this writer is stoked to play it as soon as it releases.

Carrion is a reverse horror game that will let you take the helm of an amorphous monster. Stalk, kill, and evolve your way out of a prison that is trying to contain you. From what I watched from the trailer, one can’t help but think of “if The Thing and Metroid had a baby…”. As you evolve, use your tendrils to snake your way through vent shafts, snapping up humans to munch on for health. As you spread throughout the facility, the humans will armor up, so you won’t be able to eat them for health.

They will also carry flamethrowers, which the monster isn’t too fond of. With each evolvement, you gain the ability to bend light, dash, and shoot cobwebs to outsmart the human filth. The monster is also able to take over the humans’ bodies as a means of slaughtering them, and use their limbs and other body parts as weapons against other human attackers. Although the pixelated style means the graphics are not so in-your-face disturbing, the game is still brutal and gory in its own right.

In 2020, Devolver Digital will unleash Carrion upon PC (add it to your Steam wishlist now) and consoles. As of right now, there are no confirmed specifics on which console the game will release on. Here’s hoping it’s all of them. Check out the official reveal from E3 2019 below, and let us know if you are excited to be the monster!
