For those who are unaware, Ladybeard (aka Richard Magarey) is an Australian actor, wrestler, singer, and internet celebrity who is building a name for himself in Japan. He’s been a part of other projects (Ladybaby, Deadlift Lolita) before launching BABYBEARD on April 12, 2021. They debuted their first two singles, “Nippon Kara Konnichiwa” and “PIENIZER,” on April 28, 2021. His music has been described as Kawaii-metal (Kawaii = cute in Japanese) and the metal, well I’m sure you can guess.

I first discovered Ladybeard several years ago and Japanese entertainment doesn’t get much more fun than this. A video for one of his earlier projects ended up sneaking into a YouTube playlist and I just continued down the rabbit hole. In the current world we live in, it has grown difficult for many of us to just stop and smile. I dare you to not smile with Ladybeard on a screen in front of you. He’s the pure definition of fun and I’m excited to see what this trio has in store for our ear and eye holes.

Ladybeard’s new kawaii-metal group BABYBEARD is set to release the long-awaited music video for their debut single “Nippon Kara Konnichiwa” on January 24th.

The video, shot entirely on green screen and directed by Toichiro Okada, is a bizarro sleigh ride through a Japanese fever dream. Ladybeard, SUZU, and KOTOMI take viewers on a cute, confusing adventure through the kind of insanity that only Japan could concoct. Screaming out a massive “Konnichiwa!” from the land of the rising sun, we’re gonna transport you to the land of the dropping jaw!

“Nippon Kara Konnichiwa” premieres on BABYBEARD’s YouTube channel at 22:00 Japan Standard Time on January 24th. And to get your mouth watering here’s are 2 teasers of what to expect:

Set your alarm clocks and ready your nerves, because we’re about to push you out of the normal tree, to hit every W, T, and F on your way to the crazy Japanese ground! To learn more about Ladybeard you can visit his official website. Also, be sure to follow BABYBEARD on Facebook.
