After a decade since its debut on Netflix, Stranger Things reached its conclusion with the fifth and final season. The last episodes were not without their criticism, serving to be somewhat polarizing with viewers. Many fans believe that the problem must have been due to scenes getting cut from the back half of Season 5, with hundreds of thousands of people joining a petition for the supposed footage to be released.

On Change.org, a petition was recently launched for the release of the “unseen footage” from Season 5 of Stranger Things. As of this writing, the petition sits at over 391K signatures — and still growing. While there hasn’t been any official indication from Netflix or the Duffer Brothers that these scenes even exist, the petition’s creator explained in the description why it’s believed that there must be some footage that was cut, much to the detriment of the show.

“They must have cut out a lot of scenes from volume 2 and from our loved characters,” the petition’s description reads in part. “I believe we as fans should stand up and take the initiative to get the footage and make the decision. We should sign this petition, trend hashtag, and make videos together to get Netflix and the [Duffer Brothers] to notice us. WE WANT ANSWERS!!”

It was added, “I believe the fans should have a say in how the series should go. This is why so many of us are disappointed because it didn’t live up to the expectations that was held upon. Everyone is clearly dissatisfied with this season volume. And also the amount of clues and information we got from the cast members and interviews are not matching up with the episodes provided.”

It’s not uncommon for popular TV shows to have divisive endings. Famously, a petition to remake the final season of Game of Thrones surpassed 1.8M signatures. Stranger Things‘ final season wasn’t lambasted quite as much as Game of Thrones, though it has a polarizing audience score of 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. That marks the only season to be given a “rotten” audience score, though its rating from critics is still notably Certified Fresh at 83%.

Stranger Things is streaming on Netflix; the fan petition can be found at Change.org.
