The Dark Knight will soon be reintroduced with The Brave and the Bold, a feature film in early development for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. It was previously reported that Andy Muschietti would direct the movie, and the latest update on the project has revealed that he’ll be teaming back up with his screenwriter for The Flash.

Per THR, Christina Hodson has been tapped to pen the script for The Brave and the Bold. Hodson previously scripted 2023’s The Flash, which Muschietti directed. She also scripted 2020’s Birds of Prey movie starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, as well as 2018’s Bumblebee, a Transformers spinoff. Additionally, Hodson wrote a screenplay for a Batman Beyond film that didn’t end up getting made, but nevertheless impressed the powers that be at DC.

The Brave and the Bold will focus on Batman and Robin, taking inspiration from the comic book story. In the film, the Damian Wayne version of Robin will be featured (sorry, Dick Grayson). While it’s not clear how far along the screenplay has come, it has reportedly been in the works with Hodson writing since at least last fall. Even so, it’s reported that it will still take some time before a definitive draft is turned in, as the folks at DC Studios are taking their time with the project.

Depending on how long the screenplay takes to be written and potential scheduling conflicts, it’s possible that Muschietti could end up dropping out as director. He could be busy with the second season of Welcome to Derry or other projects. As of now, however, he remains on board as the planned director for The Brave and the Bold. When it comes to who will be playing Batman and Robin, fans will have a while to wait on that as well, as casting is unlikely to begin until a screenplay is first turned in to DC Studios.

The Brave and the Bold doesn’t yet have a set release date.
