It: Welcome to Derry, HBO Max’s prequel series to Andy Muschietti’s It and It: Chapter Two, has gotten an update on Season 2. While the show is reportedly moving forward with a second season, there’s seemingly a catch, as new episodes are not yet guaranteed to happen.

A new report from THR has revealed the latest update on the future of It: Welcome to Derry. According to the report, Muschietti has become a “hot commodity” because of the success of the show’s first season on HBO Max. It was noted that a “second season is now in the works, even if it has not been officially renewed.”

In other words, Muschietti and Co. are already working on Season 2, confident that the show will receive a second-season order. Even so, nothing is guaranteed until that renewal order officially comes in from the streaming platform.

Muschietti developed the series alongside Barbara Muschietti and Jason Fuchs; Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane served as showrunners. Bill Skarsgard reprised his role as Pennywise to appear in the show after playing the monstrous clown in the two It movies, which are based on the iconic novel by Stephen King. The first season starred Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Clara Stack.

The critical reception was largely positive. It scored 81% on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a fresh rating. Welcome to Derry also debuted strongly with its streaming viewership on HBO Max, ultimately averaging 10.7 million viewers per episode. With this success in mind, coupled with the reported efforts behind the scenes to go ahead and move forward with Season 2, it seems more likely than not that It: Welcome to Derry will officially be renewed in the near future.
