With E3 coming to a close, gamers around the world have had a tantalizing glimpse into the future of the video game industry.

With several huge gaming announcements and some refreshingly laid back demo presentations, this years E3 proved to be one of the most successful yet. With that being said, lets take a look at five of the biggest surprises from this years E3.

Bethesda announces that Nuka World will be Fallout 4’s final piece of DLC

Bethesda Games Studio’s development chief Todd Howard announced during a post conference interview that the next batch of Fallout 4 DLC would be its last. This news surprised many fans, as this would mean that Fallout 4 will only have had two full sized expansions. The next piece of content, Contraptions, will allow players to build complex new machinery for their settlements. It will be followed in July by Vault-Tec Workshop, in which players will be able to build and run their own vaults. And finally in August, the last additional content for Fallout 4 will be Nuka World. Nuka World will take the sole survivor to the remnants of a Nuka Cola themed amusement park that has been turned into a city of Raiders. The DLC’s Steam description says that the expansion will finally allow players to assume the role of a ruthless bandit leader.

The next God of War game will take place in Norse mythology

Confirming leaks from earlier this year, Sony showcased a new gameplay clip of the next entry in the God of War franchise. This clip showed an aged and seemingly calmer version of Kratos, everyone’s favourite murder machine. The game had ditched the swords and sandals theme of ancient Greece and has instead taken the story to the snow capped mountains of Norse mythology. The clip shows Kratos taking his son hunting and encountering skeletal warriors and a hulking giant boss. Before Kratos opens his skull with a magic axe, the giant mentions the land of the gods, Valhalla. Will we finally see Kratos take on Thor, the god of thunder? I personally cannot wait to find out.

Hideo Kojima reveals the title, and star of his next game

The father of artsy/spooky/brilliant games, Hideo Kojima received a heroes welcome as he took to the stage at Sony’s E3 conference to announce the first game from Kojima Productions, Death Stranding. The incredibly vague and creepy trailer (we expect nothing less from Kojima) was particularly notable as it stars Norman Reedus, the actor previously attached to the cancelled Silent Hills. While I have absolutely no idea what’s going on in that trailer, I’m just happy to see Kojima and Reedus are working together again.

Insomniac announce a new Spider-Man game for the PS4

This was one of the more under the radar, but no less pleasant surprises of E3. Insomniac, developers of Ratchet and Clank, announced a new Spiderman game exclusively for the PlayStation 4. The studios past experiences with colourful, over the top action will serve them well as they attempt to do justice to Ol’ Webhead.

Activision announce a remaster of Crash Bandicoot

Move over Nathan Drake, the PlayStation’s original mascot is back. Activison announced they would be remastering the original three Crash Bandicoot games for this generation of consoles. The hyperactive Marsupial will also make his debut in the Skylanders franchise. As someone who spent a vast amount of his childhood playing Crash Bandicoot games, I am overjoyed to see him return.

So those are my top five biggest surprises from E3 2016. What did you think of this years conference? Did it live up to the hype? Let us know in the comments and on social media!
