Strip Club Massacre is a plot-driven revenge story, with a spattering of nudity, and a few well-done death scenes. It is barely a massacre, but it does feature a strip club!
The story is about a young girl named Megan (Alicia Watson) whose life has fallen apart. She just discovered that her estranged mother has committed suicide, she lost her job, found out her boyfriend is cheating on her with her roommate, and thus lost her place to live. Feeling desperate, she turns to her old friend Amanda (Courtney Riggs) for help. Amanda’s boyfriend Bobby (Stefan Rollins) manages a strip club and offers Megan a waitress job to try and help her get back on her feet. After she realizes how little money she’ll be making, she decides she’d rather strip and make some real cash.
That’s where things get interesting. The villain of the movie is the head stripper Jazz (Erin Brown), who will do anything for money, and has no problem killing anyone who gets in her way. Jazz and her flunkies murder many people throughout the film, but for some reason are content to just make Megan’s life as difficult as possible instead of taking her out. She does many horrible things to Megan, which eventually leads to Megan seeking revenge on Jazz and everyone else who has wronged her.
Jazz and her crew’s murder scenes were my favorites of the film and featured some decent practical effects, such as teeth removal and eye gouging. Those girls were completely evil and self-serving, and it was easy to hate them all. Despite all the bad things that happened to them, Megan and Amanda remained positive and likeable characters, which made the events of the so-called massacre seem forced and unrealistic.
As I mentioned above, the plot of Strip Club Massacre is solid, but much of the movie suffers from bad dialogue, choppy editing, and awkward delivery. The performances from Alicia Watson and Erin Brown stood out as the best things about the movie. The music was well chosen, and most of the effects were quality. My biggest issue with the film was the editing. It was rough and many of the scenes felt like they should have been unused footage rather than final cuts. Also, I feel pretty strongly that there was not nearly enough blood, gore, or nudity for a film called Strip Club Massacre.
Overall, it is an interesting revenge story that highlights strip club politics and has some brutal and fun death scenes in it. It wasn’t a great film, but there’s definitely some quality moments in here.
