Let’s take a trip down memory lane, to the year 1993. Jurassic Park had made its cinematic debut and Robin Williams created a cult classic with Mrs Doubtfire. What also made his fluffy, pixelated debut was was Bubsy, on the SNES . For anyone who doesn’t remember him, he was Nintendo’s crack at an animal platformer, trying to compete with Sega’s Sonic.

Bubsy had a few other games, spanning the SNES, Megadrive and Atari Jaguar in the 90’s. Unfortunately, he never made it past that decade and consigned to the forgotten characters bin. Similar fate befell Ristar, if you actually remember it at all (you’ll be forgiven for Googling that one).
After two decades, Accolade announced at E3 that they’re bringing the character back again with Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back. This development team has nothing to do with the original company, as they’re under new ownership. I’m quite sure that out of all the 90’s characters, no one really remembered or asked for the return. However, it’ll be fun to see where they take it.
Accolade says: “Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back! is an all new Bubsy adventure featuring Bubsy in a bevy of exotic locations as he travels the planet looking for the beloved Golden Fleece. Bubsy must use all of his classic moves and a few new ones to dodge and out bobcat a battalion of Woolies, not mention the gnarliest UFO bosses to ever grace a Bubsy adventure. The wisecracking lynx also adds over a 100 new one liners to his lexicon to keep fans guessing what he’ll say next.”
Bubsy: The Woollies Strike Back will be coming to PS4 and PC in Fall 2017. Check out the trailer below!

Well, I will say that it looks halfway decent on a visual standpoint (compared to the 1996 horror), and it does look somewhat fun. I don’t necessarily hate Bubsy, but Accolade had better come out strong with this. Maybe the reception will be lukewarm to positive?
