Just when you thought he was dead and buried, Jigsaw will rise from the ashes in this year’s Saw sequel, the imaginatively titled Jigsaw.

Bloody Disgusting has confirmed via Lionsgate, that the 8th film in the popular horror series , which had previously been titled Saw: Legacy, will be released in the Halloween slot that was previously reserved for the prior 7 movies.

The name Jigsaw, of course, belongs to the franchises big bad John Kramer (Tobin Bell), who after being diagnosed with an inoperable frontal lobe tumor, decides to create a series of intricate (and deadly) games, to test those he believes are wasting their lives.

It has been 7 years since the last movie, and as far as we know, Kramer was finally killed off. Any concerns that this might be a reboot or even a prequel have been put to rest though, as the official synopsis refers to Kramer as being “dead for over a decade.”

“Bodies are turning up around the city, each having met a uniquely gruesome demise. As the investigation proceeds, evidence points to one man: John Kramer. But how can this be? The man known as Jigsaw has been dead for over a decade. Or has an apprentice picked up the mantle of Jigsaw, perhaps even someone inside the investigation?”

Saw, directed by James Wan, first appeared in cinemas back in 2004, and was a surprising hit. It was a fun and original horror flick, with an incredible twist in its tale. Six sequels followed, and as the body count and surprises increased so did the global gross. Between 2004 and 2010, the Saw series made an outstanding $873 million worldwide, which is why it’s so shocking that it’s taken 7 years to release a new entry.

Jigsaw, which is being directed by Peter and Michael Spierig, will open in cinemas on October 27th. It has, of course, been given an ‘R’ rating for “Grisly bloody violence and torture”. That sounds right up our street. Do you want to play a game?
