PlayStation users in Europe received an email from Sony today that announced a PlayStation Plus price hike. To say this has gone down like a ton of bricks is an understatement.
As of 31st August 3 2017, the PlayStation Plus membership is going up by 25%. Over in the wetland of the United Kingdom, the monthly price goes from £5.99 to £6.99. The 3 month price goes from £14.99 to £19.99 and yearly from £39.99 to £49.99. If you’ve got your PlayStation Plus subscription set to auto renewal, the new charges come into force at the end of August.
Sony haven’t come out with any detailed response. They’ve only noted the pricing, and what you get with the subscription. There are a few things that may keep people paying, one being the online aspect. Another incentive to keep a subscription are the monthly free games. Not having an account will prevent gamers from getting the new games, plus any free games they’ve picked up along the way won’t be playable.
Whether Sony is preparing to add further finances to the making of the next PlayStation (apparently due in 2019), or Brexit is to blame, is an unknown. Social media is already up in arms over the price hike and time will tell if it effects user base.
