New ‘Street Fighter’ TV Series Enters Development

Capcom

M. Bison’s World Warrior Tournament is set to go down on the small screen!

Per Deadline, Entertainment One has locked down a deal to to develop, produce, and finance an all new TV series based on Capcom’s Street Fighter video game franchise. The team behind the web-series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist — Joey Ansah, Jacqueline Quella, and Mark Wooding — are attached to executive produce. It remains to be seen which network the new show will be able to call home.

According to the article, this new series will draw inspiration for its plot from the 1991 sequel Street Fighter II: The World Warrior. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Guile will be featured as the primary protagonists, competing in M. Bison’s tournament to discover the world’s most powerful fighter. Along the way, I’m sure will be seeing some of our other favorites as well, from Blanka to Balrog.

This is obviously far from the first major live-action Street Fighter adaptation. In 1994, it was developed as a feature film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile; the film was widely panned. Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li starring Kristin Kreuk in the titular role then came out in 2009, earning its own share of bad reviews.

However, the upcoming TV series seems to be in good hands with the Assassin’s Fist team on board. To see what that series is like, you can visit the official website, and check out the trailer below.
