There’s no doubt that one of the most popular video games for the Super Nintendo would be the RPG Chrono Trigger. I can’t tell you how many hours of my young life were sunk into this game, and the same can be said for many fellow gamers from the era. You’d think it’d be a marvelous thing when the game had a revival in the form of a PC port on Steam, but along the way, something went wrong.

After being released in February of this year, Steam’s Chrono Trigger was not met with a very warm reception. The title is rife with complaints, with the number one issue seeming to be its graphics. To modernize the game, a sprite-smoothing filter was used on the graphics, with the intention of making things look better in higher resolution. Unfortunately, all this did was leave fans clamoring for the old-school graphics they knew and loved.

Well, in a post from Square Enix at the Steam forums, lots of great news about the port was revealed. Several patches are being planned for the year to alleviate the fan concerns about the game, with the first one rolling out this month. This first patch will include the option for players to switch between the higher-resolution graphics or the classic 16-bit style as seen on the SNES. Additional patches are also promising to fix other fan complaints.

Because of these problems, the Limited Edition version of the game will also be available for a longer period of time. It will be on sale for the regular price from now until April 30th. Special features include digital liner notes, music from the game, and six downloadable wallpapers.
