Meet Right Eye. He’s just your average eyeball, doing average eyeball things – like checking out pretty landscapes and looking at porn on the internet. His girlfriend, the beautiful Left Eye, lives with him and together the two are as happy as can be. But all that changes when the evil Dust Pirates (dust is an eye’s worst enemy, obvs) kidnap Left Eye for their own nefarious ends, leaving Right Eye with a horrible case of retinal detachment. Welcome to the world of Colorblind – An Eye For An Eye, a game about an eyeball’s revenge, where it pays to make a spectacle of yourself, and eye based puns are welcomed. The cornea the better.
Developed by the team that brought us Silly Sausage in Meatland and Magic Mansion, Colorblind – An Eye For An Eye is a fun puzzle platformer that offers something different for the discerning mobile gamer out there, or simply something to help kill a bit of time on the journey home.
Players control Right Eye as he traverses a monochrome landscape in search of his girlfriend, seeking out paintbrushes that will briefly help him to see color and thus traverse the various perils and pitstops that lay in his way. Be careful to avoid the waterfalls though, they’ll wash away any remaining color you might have on you and make those all-important platforms and prizes vanish from view.
This is certainly a unique idea for a video game, which really helps it to stand out in the App Store. It isn’t the most difficult game you’ll play on your mobile device, but it’s a welcome addition to a world of mobile gaming that is quite literally drowning in ‘switch and match games’ like Candy Crush Saga. But that’s always been the appeal of developers like Nitrome. They don’t make your bog standard mobile games. They think outside the box and create fun little time killers to keep your fingers happy, and away from the soul-sucking void of places like Facebook or Tinder.
So if you’re looking for something that’s going to keep you awake at night, then you probably need to look elsewhere. But if you enjoy fun, quirky visuals, and gameplay that lands just on the right side of challenging then you could do worse than to download Colorblind – An Eye For An Eye today. Heck, it’s the best mobile game about an eyeball you’ll play this year that’s for sure, so give your own peepers a treat and head over to the App Store now.
