‘Westworld’ Trolls Fans Demanding Season 2 Spoilers

Warner Bros. Television

Every fan of HBO’s Westworld couldn’t be more excited for the return of the show this month. With that, many are so eager to find out what happens next that they don’t even want to wait for Season 2 to air. It’s gotten so bad that when creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy participated in a Reddit Q&A yesterday, they finally had to respond to the nonstop requests for spoilers.

Nolan and Joy, apparently in jest, told fans that to combat spoilers, they would release a video before the season detailing every single thing that happens. This way, people who want spoilers can have them up front if they really want them. They promised to upload this video if the comment received more than a thousand upvotes — a number which was quickly surpassed.

As promised, Nolan and Joy did upload a video, but it’s not what people were expecting. It begins with footage from the Season 2 premiere trailer, with a voiceover explaining what’s happening. At about the 1:30 mark, however, the video takes a turn when two stars from the show suddenly appear. I hate to spoil exactly what happens, because it’s so much better to just see for yourself!

Take a look at the Season 2 “spoiler” video below, but don’t worry… it doesn’t actually contain any spoilers!

If you can’t get the video to work (or you’d just rather not bother watching it), I’ll reveal what happens. We can see show star Angela Sarafyan (Clementine) playing a rather familiar tune on the piano, and those who’ve been on the internet for the past several years are bound to recognize it right away. Co-star Evan Rachel Wood (Dolores) then starts singing the words to Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” Yep — Westworld totally just rickrolled its fans.

To find out what really happens, tune in when Season 2 of Westworld premieres on HBO on April 22nd!
