Howard The Duck is Alive and Well in the MCU

Marvel Studios

Hallelujah! Praise the cosmos! Our prayers have been answered, as we finally have confirmation that Horror Geek Life favorite Howard the Duck is alive and kicking following the events of Avengers: Infinity War.

According to a Huffington Post interview with Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo, Howard was among a few names listed when the brothers were asked about which Marvel Cinematic Universe favorites had survived being turned into dust following Thanos’ finger snap heard around the universe.

This is exciting news for those of us who have been praying for a Howard the Duck cameo in the next Avengers movie. In fact, we even wrote about how the Russo’s should have better utilized the character in Infinity War, and how they should let him join the Avengers as a stand-in when the war with Thanos continues. Well, now we feel vindicated, and the hope is alive that our collective dreams might just come true.

Joining the anthropomorphic hero on the list of survivors was Peter Parker’s Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and Black Panther’s Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o), while Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander), Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), and even the actor portraying Loki on Asgard (Matt Damon) were all confirmed as being turned to ash. Bummer.

The Brothers Russo were a little more tight-lipped though when pressed for the availability of some bigger names for the Infinity War sequel, deeming the fates of many Marvel characters as “too spoilery” to reveal. Interestingly though, during the interview, the name Jane Foster – Thor’s lady on the side, played by Natalie Portman – came up, and it was hinted at that we haven’t seen the last of her character in the MCU. We haven’t seen Jane since Thor: The Dark World in 2013, so it will be interesting to see what Marvel may have planned for her if she does indeed return.

For now, though, we’re just excited to know our favorite feathered friend is out there somewhere just waiting for his moment to shine once again on screen as a part of the MCU – and this time can it please be for more than just a fleeting moment? Fingers crossed the Russo Brothers are listening. After all, they’ve kept him alive for a reason.
