Almost two decades later, people are still trying to uncover all of the secrets the Silent Hill games have to offer!
Comparable to Resident Evil, the Silent Hill video game series is highly regarded by horror fans. After the planned game Silent Hills got the axe from Konami back in 2015, however, fans of the series had nothing to look forward to. Still, we can always go back and play the older games again, such as the highly-praised 2001 sequel Silent Hill 2. As it turns out, one fan has taken a step ahead of us already by discovering a previously-unseen secret buried in the game.
Of course, the Silent Hill games are known for their secrets, with each one featuring multiple endings. In Silent Hill 2, players have just recently found out how to access a secret mini-map option, which can only be unlocked after first achieving the secret “Dog Ending.” From there, players can set their controller type to “2”, and then press the following buttons to active the mini-map: Start, L2, Square, and L3.

And that’s not all. Also uncovered is the ability to save anywhere, which would have come in handy for so many frustrated players. To access this feature, you must have control of James, and then press these buttons: D-Pad Lef, Left Analog Stick Left, Right Analog Stick Left, L2, L1, L3. You’ll then be able to access the save menu to log your progress whenever you wish.
Silent Hill 2 was included as part of a Director’s Cut edition and re-released on Xbox and PC. However, these secret features can only be unlocked in the original PlayStation 2 version of the game. You’re going to have to dust off that PS2 if you want to try these secrets out for yourself.
Who knows when or if we’ll ever see another Silent Hill game. But we’ll take another reason to revisit some of the classics!
