Freddy Fazbear and his murderous, animatronic pals are creeping their way closer to their big screen debut. Based on Scott Cawthon’s video game franchise of the same name, the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie is currently in production under the Blumhouse banner. At this point, all we really know about the film is it will be directed by Chris Columbus, with other updates on the project being very scarce.
According to executive producer Jason Blum, however, the we can expect some updates coming soon. In a recent Q&A session held on Twitter, Blum was asked by a fan about the progress of Five Nights at Freddy’s. In response, the Blumhouse CEO promised that news on the film is coming “very soon.”
Soon. Very soon. I promise! https://t.co/soowEtDldB

While not exactly a date, Blum’s words to hint that updates on the film will be here in the very near future. That’s exciting to know for fans who’ve been looking forward to the film since it was first announced in 2015. Previously, Gil Kenan was planning to direct using only practical FX rather than CGI for the puppets. It’s not known if Blumhouse will use this same approach since taking the project over, but one would hope so.
Originally released as a computer game in 2012, Five Nights at Freddy’s lets players control a security guard working the night shift at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. The restaurant’s animatronic robots, heavily inspired by those you’d see at a Chuck E. Cheese, roam the establishment at night. The player’s job is to keep the robots in check while trying to survive each shift. An instant hit, the game would go on to inspire multiple sequels.
Anyone who’s played these games knows the focus is primarily on jump scares. Despite its simplicity, however, the franchise is full of creepy moments that will translate well to the big screen. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates on the film, so stay tuned.
