John Carpenter’s 1978 slasher film Halloween is widely considered to be one of the best horror movies of all time. With a simple yet terrifying story and a strong cast including Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis, there’s lots to love about this film. Many would consider one of the strongest aspects of the classic movie to be its iconic theme music, which was also composed by Carpenter.
Forty years later, Carpenter is returning to the franchise to once again compose the score. Of course, this includes presenting a new version of the classic Halloween theme that plays during the opening credits. Titled “The Shape Returns,” Carpenter composed the new song with son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Listening to it just might give you goosebumps, and you’re going to be even more ready to see the film than you were before.

If you’re a collector of soundtracks, or even if you are looking to start with this one, the Halloween: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album will release on Oct. 19, 2018. Of course, that’s the same day the film itself releases, meaning you can buy the soundtrack and listen to it on your way to see the premiere.
In a statement, Carpenter described revisiting the Halloween franchise as “transforming,” as he was only on board as a composer this time. “It was not a movie I directed, so I had a lot of freedom in creating the score and getting into the director’s head,” the legendary filmmaker explains. “I was proud to serve David Gordon Green’s vision.”
Halloween will release in theaters everywhere on Oct. 19, 2018.
Synopsis: Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.
