Legendary filmmaker George A. Romero is one of the most respected directors of all time. As a pioneer of the horror genre starting with his beloved classic Night of the Living Dead, Romero will always be seen by fans as one of the very best. Needless to say, his presence has been deeply missed ever since his passing in July of 2017, but his legacy will be preserved and appreciated forever. Better yet, it turns out we haven’t even seen the last of his work, and there’s more of Romero for us to look forward to.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Romero’s wife, Suzanne Desrocher-Romero, is actively working on bringing more of her late husband’s material to the fans. This includes restoring a film from 1973 that’s been mostly unseen by the general public. This is especially exciting for fans who appreciate Romero’s films from that era. From the interview:
“We have a film that he shot in 1973 that most people haven’t seen. A handful of people have seen this film. We’re gonna restore it, and we’re gonna show it to Romero cinephiles. It’s a scary movie, but it’s not a horror movie, and it’s about ageism. Anyway, he has a cameo in it, and it’ll be fun. And we’ll show the movie, or get it distributed. It’ll be a project that the foundation’s gonna do. I think it’s the first project we’re gonna do actually.”
Additionally, Desrocher-Romero revealed she has at least 40 scripts in her possession written by the iconic filmmaker. She goes on to tease that she’ll be working on getting some of these stories developed as well, knowing all of his fans would love to see it.
“George was a prolific writer. He loved to write, and we have 40, 50 scripts that he’s written, and a lot of it is very good. He had a lot to say, and he still does, because I’m gonna make sure that he does. It’s my mission.”
No word on when we can expect to see the restored, unseen George A. Romero film from 1973, but we’ll be watching out for updates. Stay tuned.
