We’re seeing lots of horror fan films going into production lately, and it’s thanks in part to the success of Never Hike Alone. From director Vincente DiSanti, the Friday the 13th fan film serves as a modern sequel to Jason Lives. The high quality of the movie shows just how good fan films have the potential to be, and Never Hike Alone has since become so popular that its “Ghost Jason” has even been included in an officially-licensed Friday the 13th video game.
So, what did it take to make the movie? We can now find out, courtesy of Womp Stomp Films. The entire process of shooting Never Hike Alone, from concept to creation, has been fully documented in a new behind-the-scenes video uploaded to YouTube. The documentary begins with how the idea for the fan film first began, and details the process DiSanti and his team went through to bring the movie to life. In addition to DiSanti, stars Andrew Leighty and Thom Mathews are among those interviewed for the video, along with many others.
If you’re a filmmaking geek on top of being an obsessive fan of Friday the 13th – in other words, if you’re like me – you’ll especially enjoy watching this new video. The half-hour doc carries the same high quality as the film itself, and it’s must-see for anyone who enjoyed watching the movie. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for one day seeing Never Hike Alone 2, but this keeps me satisfied for now!
