With Funko POP! figures now present in practically every household, the company’s popularity cannot be denied. When you think about how there have been animated LEGO movies due to the popularity of the toy company, it seems natural that the same could be done for Funko characters. Now, according to a new report from Super Bro Movies, Warner Bros. is doing just that with their Warner Animation Group – the same team behind The LEGO Batman Movie and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
In the report, the unnamed Funko movie is slated to go into development this year. No director or acting talent have yet had their names attached to the project, however. It is also worth pointing out that this has not yet been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. We are expecting more information on the potential project to be made available soon.
SBM also reports several confirmed characters to appear in the animated movie. Deadpool, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Hellboy, Care Bears, Darth Vader, and My Little Pony characters are named specifically. We can presume these will all be depicted as the Pop! versions of the characters, giving them all a similar look despite coming from very different franchises. With no plot details available, it’s not clear who the primary protagonist(s) would be, but it’s interesting to know any Funko figure could show up. Considering how well this works for the LEGO universe, it seems to be a simple formula for success.
Also teased as upcoming projects from WAG are films about The Cat in the Hat and The Jetsons, in addition to another untitled LEGO movie. As nothing is yet official, it’s best to hold off on our excitement until Warner Bros. confirms that the movie is in the works. You can read more information over at Super Bro Movies.
