After lucking out and winning the Super Lotto in Jamaica, a man identified only as “A. Campbell” wasn’t about to become a target for beggars across the island. After waiting 54 days to cash in his winning ticket, the man came forward to collect the earnings. However, when he accepted the trademark oversized novelty check bearing his total winnings, the man came wearing a Ghostface mask. His photo was taken, and you’ve got to admit, there’s something inherently humorous about seeing the killer from the Scream movie series winning the Super Lotto.
Obviously, the reason for lottery winners to hide their identities is to avoid harassment from those who recognize them. If they’re shown on the news to have suddenly won a tremendous amount of cash, people are going to be hounding them for handouts every single day. Because of this, many other lottery winners have disguised themselves in similar methods to collect their prizes before, which includes wearing emoji and animal masks. Hopefully, future winners will take a page from Mr. Campbell and come dressed as other masked horror movie characters.
If you’re wondering, “A. Campbell” won $158.4 million in Jamaican money, which equates to about $1.17 million US. Now he’ll be able to buy all of the horror movies he wants, and perhaps he’ll even binge the Scream films as a way to celebrate.
Unfortunately, not every piece of news involving people wearing Scream mask is quite as lighthearted as this one. Recently, police in Virginia arrested a man accused of robbing a 7-Eleven store while dressed up as Ghostface. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, but something tells me this won’t be the last time we see the trademark Scream mask in the news.
