Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning star Dick Wieand is heading to HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati on the weekend of March 15-17, 2019. For the first time ever, Wieand will be offering special photo-ops with fans dressed up as his character from the film, Roy Burns. Fans will be able to take their photos with the greatest Jason cosplayer of all, with Wieand wearing the jumpsuit and cowl Roy wore in the 1985 sequel.
Everyone who’s seen the movie knows about the twist ending, which created a lot of controversy at the time. Although the killer in the movie seems to be a resurrected Jason Voorhees, an unmasking scene at the end reveals the murderer is none other than local EMT Roy Burns. After his estranged son was murdered due to the negligent care of the staff of the halfway home housing him, Roy goes on a rampage while dressed up as Jason Voorhees, killing anyone he can get his hands on.
In the movie, Wieand shares the role of Roy Burns with Tom Morga. While it’s Morga under the mask during the kill scenes when Roy is disguised as Jason, it’s Wieand’s face shown when the character is unmasked at the end. Wieand’s Roy appears in the beginning and the middle of the film as well, and for those paying attention, the reveal of him as the killer in the end may not be too surprising, given his reaction to seeing his son’s body.
While Wieand’s presence at HorrorHound Weekend is particularly exciting to Friday the 13th fans, there are tons of other celebrities for horror fans to meet. Christina Ricci will be in attendance, reuniting with The Addams Family co-stars Christopher Lloyd, Jimmy Workman, and Carel Struycken. Some of the other confirmed big name stars are Neve Campbell, Meat Loaf, Elvira, Fairuza Balk, Robert Patrick, Miko Hughes, and so much more.
