The CW is developing a TV series adaptation of The Lost Boys, and production seems to be on the fast track. Catherine Hardwicke has now been attached to helm the pilot episode, using a script written by Heather Mitchell. Hardwicke is known for directing the first Twilight movie, though she did not return to direct any of the sequels in the series. The Lost Boys pilot will mark her return to directing on-screen vampires since helming Twilight in 2008.
Additionally, the show’s cast is filling up as well. Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey has been cast in a lead role as Michael Emerson. Also confirmed are Kiele Sanchez (Kingdom) as Lucy, Medalion Rahimi (Still Star-Crossed) as Stella, and Dakota Shapiro (Valley of the Boom) as David. Rumor is that the Frog Brothers will be gender-swapped to become the Frog Sisters in the upcoming series, although those roles have yet to be cast.
Set in Santa Clara, the show focuses on Michael Emerson (Posey), his brother Sam, and their mother Lucy (Sanchez) and their recent move to the idyllic coastal town. Not much else has been officially confirmed about the TV series adaptation’s plot beyond that, but it seems to be using the original film as a blueprint. While we may see some significant changes, such as the introduction of the Frog Sisters, the show seems to be mostly faithful to its source material.
Can The Lost Boys work as a CW TV series? There are undoubtedly going to be critics of the very notion, and given the network, we can be sure it won’t be quite as the original R-rated movie. However, there have been some high-quality shows brought to us by The CW, and a modern take on the series could be quite interesting. Ultimately, we’ll just have to see how it all turns out.
