lost boys remake
The Lost Boys / Warner Bros.

The Lost Boys is unquestionably one of the best vampire movies of all time. Directed by Joel Schumacher, the movie starred Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, Jami Gertz, and Jason Patric. The instant classic spawned a franchise after its release in 1987, with two direct-to-video sequels to follow in later years.

Given the movie’s popularity, it’s weird that it has yet to undergo the reboot treatment. Almost every major horror franchise has been reinvented in some fashion at this point, yet the same couldn’t be said for The Lost Boys. After all, Fright Night had already had a reboot come and go in theaters, and turning to The Lost Boys seems like a natural next step. Finally, The CW is moving forward with plans for a TV series reboot of the cult classic film, ordering the production of a pilot episode. If pleased with what they see, the network will then order a full season.

Synopsis: After the sudden death of their father, two brothers move to Santa Carla with their mother, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers find themselves drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

The order of a pilot does not guarantee a show will be picked up. This was sadly proven true when Kevin Bacon reprised his Tremors role in TV series continuation for Syfy, only for the network to ultimately pass on the show. In the case of The Lost Boys, however, it’s hard to say if there’s going to be as much fan excitement behind the concept. These days, it seems more people prefer modern continuations over straight reboots. In any case, the pilot is a go, and we’ll see what happens with the potential TV series.
