The Occupation Game trailer

The Occupation is a first-person, fixed-time, investigative thriller set in North West England on October 24th, 1987. You play as a journalist in a detailed, systems-driven world where people react to your actions and time is your biggest enemy. The game was developed by White Paper Games and will be published by Humble Bundle next month.

Ahead of The Occupation’s release, players can get an in-depth look at the game which demonstrates the intense moments of interrogation, exploration, and exploitation that change depending on how you play. This nine-minute video dives into many mechanics that are befitting for a 1980s journalist-turned-spy, complete with one-way pager, stop-watch, and floppy disks, and how players can handle situations with many different methods.

Synopsis: It’s 1987 in North West England; A time of ’80s British pop, grand architecture and political unrest. An explosion has triggered a controversial act which threatens to erode civil liberties of the population to be rushed into place. You are tasked with investigating and questioning people on their actions from a tumultuous night which resulted in the loss of many lives. Each person has a different account of the night’s event and you must use the tools at your disposal to get the results you need for your investigation.

White Paper Games is an independent studio based in Manchester, England. The studio released its first title, Ether One, in March 2014, which was nominated for a Develop award for Use of Narrative and was also a finalist at Indiecade 2014. The Occupation is the studio’s second project.
