Friday the 13th: The Game (Gun Media)

This spring, Friday the 13th: The Game arrives on a new console, as publisher Gun Media has announced that the game is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Dubbed as Friday the 13th: The Game Ultimate Slasher Switch Edition, the Switch version includes all previously-released DLC. The additional Jason Kill Packs, both Counselor Clothing Packs, and the Emote Party Pack will all be included. However, the coveted Savini Jason will not be included, as that particular unlockable was exclusive for Kickstarter backers.

First released in 2017, Friday the 13th: The Game revitalized the franchise by bringing Jason Voorhees back to life. The developers continued to add content over the next year, which saw additional maps and new playable characters added into the game. Unfortunately, Gun Media announced last year they were halting the creation of any and all new content, citing the legal battle between Victor Miller and Friday the 13th rights-holders Horror Inc.

The announcement that no new content was forthcoming disappointed many of the game’s players, who signaled at the time that the demise of the game was near. Like Jason himself, however, the game refused to die, and a passionate fan base is keeping it alive by continuing to play on each console. While it’s indeed a downer to know Demon from A New Beginning will never be a playable character, there’s still tons of content for fans to enjoy in the game as-is, and now Friday the 13th fans on the Switch will be able to appreciate the experience.

The Nintendo Switch version of Friday the 13th: The Game is due to arrive this spring. An official release date has not yet been named, but should be forthcoming. In the meantime, don’t go into the woods alone.
