We are utterly heartbroken to pass along the news that world-famous TV star Luke Perry has died. Recently, Perry had been hospitalized after suffering a massive stroke, and he was placed into a medically-induced coma after arriving at a hospital. Unfortunately, Perry never recovered, and after remaining under observation for five days, the actor passed away on Monday. He was just 52 years old.

Perry comes from the very small Ohio town of Fredericktown, and was even the high school’s “Freddie” mascot. Following his high school graduation, Perry moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Beginning his career with bit parts on soap operas and a spot in a Twisted Sister music video, Perry caught a huge break when he was cast as teen heartthrob Dylan McKay on Fox’s teen-drama Beverly Hills 90210. Also starring in movies like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Terminal Bliss, Perry had quickly become one the hottest teen idols of the ’90s.

The actor was no stranger to doing voice work, either. He notably played himself on a 1993 episode of The Simpsons, revealing that he was the half-brother of Krusty the Clown. In the episode, Perry is shot out of a cannon into a pillow factory, which then implodes with him inside. Perry also voiced himself on Johnny Bravo, and did voice roles in other animated shows like Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm, Biker Mice from Marsand The Incredible Hulk.

As his career progressed, Perry took on some more serious roles. This included a stint on the gritty HBO prison drama Oz, which saw Perry portraying TV evangelist Jeremiah Cloutier. Following this run, he starred on his own post-apocalyptic drama series, also coincidentally named Jeremiah. In 2017, Perry snagged a recurring role on the popular drama series Riverdale, as Archie’s father Fred Andrews.

Perry was surrounded by his family in the hospital when he passed away. We wish to offer our deepest condolences to those closest to the actor. May he rest in peace.
