The new Chucky from MGM and Orion’s Child’s Play reboot now has his voice, as Mark Hamill has been announced for the role. Previously, Chucky had been voiced by Brad Dourif in every single Child’s Play and Chucky movie in the series. While Dourif will likely continue to voice the original killer doll in Syfy’s upcoming Chucky TV series, Hamill will officially be the second person to ever take on the role.
Hamill is perhaps best known for his role as Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars franchise, but he’s a prolific voice actor as well. He has been providing the voice of the Joker in many Batman shows, animated movies, and video games, beginning with Batman: The Animated Series. Hamill has also lent his voice to many other animated and video game projects.

While nobody is exactly thrilled to see Brad Dourif replaced as the voice of Chucky, the use of a new actor was more or less required. With the Syfy series taking place in a separate universe, it’s better to differentiate the two properties with a new voice actor. And if you have to replace Dourif, you really couldn’t do much better than Mark Hamill. As Hamill has been a perfect Joker for decades, I’m going to go into the new Child’s Play with an open mind.
Hamill joins Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, and Brian Tyree Henry in the cast. The new Child’s Play will be a modern remake of the original 1988 film from director Tom Holland and writer Don Mancini. This time, the killer doll turns murderous as the result of malfunctioning A.I., as opposed to the use of voodoo magic from a serial killer. While any remake of a classic film should make us leery, the trailer for Child’s Play does look promising. You can see the film when it hits theaters on June 21, 2019.
