Lucasfilm’s ILMxLAB division has released a new trailer for the upcoming Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, which was first announced in 2016. The trailer shows gameplay for “Episode 1,” the first of three episodes of the story-driven interactive experience from writer David S. Goyer. The reveal came as Colum Slevin, Head of Media for Oculus’s AR/VR Experiences, took the stage with ILMxLAB at the Star Wars Celebration.
In Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series – Episode 1, players take on the role of a smuggler who comes out of hyperspace close to Mustafar and goes head-to-head with Darth Vader himself. The game will let players wield a lightsaber, which is teased in the gameplay trailer below, and will offer a “Lightsaber Dojo” mode, along with roughly an hour of main story play through.
Along with the gameplay, ILMxLAB announced new cast members Maya Rudolph (Saturday Night Live) as the player’s droid co-pilot ZOE3 and voice actor Scott Lawrence as Darth Vader. Lawrence has previously voiced Vader in several Star Wars video games including Star Wars: Battlefront II, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, and Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.
The first episode will be a launch title for the Oculus Quest headset and will come out for the Oculus Rift and Oculus Rift S. While the release date has not been confirmed, Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series – Episode 1 is expected to release later this year.
This has been an exciting weekend for fans of Star Wars video games. Today, Electronic Arts’ Respawn Entertainment revealed a trailer for the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The third-person action adventure game will launch this fall and offer players new characters, locations, enemies, and more. The game will launch on November 15, 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Origin. Read more about Jedi: Fallen Order here.
