Orion has released an all-new trailer for the Child’s Play movie heading to theaters this summer, finally revealing more of the new Chucky. Now voiced by Mark Hamill, the killer doll is looking to reinvent the 1988 horror classic as a modern horror story. Taking advantage of today’s technology, Chucky now uses artificial intelligence to communicate with his new pal, Andy. Unfortunately, something is clearly wrong with the hardware, as the seemingly innocuous Buddi doll goes on an apparent killing spree.
The new trailer reveals a lot. Of course, while the basic idea of the story is the same—i.e., a mother buying a doll for her son that turns out to be murderous—Chucky’s gimmick is now very different. As a technologically advanced doll, Chucky can now control things like thermostats and security shutters to assist him with his murders.
The end of the trailer also reveals Chucky’s new voice from Mark Hamill. It sounds reminiscent of Brad Dourif and is certainly creepy enough.

We can also see that the movie isn’t merely recycling death scenes shown in the original film. Chucky appears to be a bit more brutal this time around, coming up with some creatively violent ways to kill his victims. Still, it appears he’ll be using the classic kitchen knife at least once in the movie, which still has a creepy vibe of its own. For all of these high marks, however, I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t admit that the shot of the doll smiling looked a little goofy.
Lars Klevberg directs, using a script from Tyler Burton Smith. Aubrey Plaza and Gabriel Bateman star as Karen and Andy Barclay, with Brian Tyree Henry starring as Detective Norris. Of course, Mark Hamill provides the voice of the new Chucky.
